What Do Sessions with Cass Look Like?

Cass believes in meeting clients exactly where they are. As a result, a session with Cass will look different with each person, as everyone has unique and multifaceted experiences that will determine his exact approach. He also knows that one of the most important aspects of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client, which is why he strives to develop a relationship that is built on kindness, understanding, non-judgment, and trust.

While Cass incorporates various modalities and theories, he most often pulls from narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, EMDR and mindfulness. Each of these modalities allows him to support clients in reclaiming their stories, better understanding their histories and identities, as well as developing skills and techniques to manage the emotional distress that can come with being human.

Meet Cass

Cass Daniels (He/Him/His) knows what it’s like to feel misunderstood, to feel like the world doesn’t understand you and to struggle with or feel uncertain about who you are.

It was his own journey toward embracing his transgender and queer identities that led him to become a therapist, one who is focused on providing a judgement-free space for queer, LGBTQIA+, trans, and gender-expansive clients to safely explore mental health and substance use topics and concerns.

Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, dysphoria, bullying, a life transition, or any other challenge, Cass is prepared to work through it with you. A licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), he earned his MSW from the University of Denver in 2018. In his sessions, he utilizes a wide array of theories and modalities but is primarily grounded in trauma-informed approaches, anti-oppression, cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. Cass is also trained in Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).

What this means: he is there for you. He is there to listen to you and to support you, and he understands that every client is different. As such, he will tailor his approach to your individual journey through life as you work to reach your goals and increase your feelings of self-worth and well-being.

Previous experience at schools, community-based mental health settings, and psychiatric facilities has granted Cass the opportunity to work with diverse clients from all walks of life and has allowed him to appreciate and honor the variant human experience. He spent five years teaching in both middle and high schools, and in graduate school, he interned at Rainbow Alley, an LGBTQ youth community center in Denver. He then went on to work for Highlands Behavioral Health System, where he co-developed the Constellation Program, a queer-affirming space for youth and adults experiencing mental health crises. He then managed the Transgender Center of the Rockies during its inception year. There, he provided outpatient therapy, community events, peer support, and training for the transgender community around substance use, mental health topics, and sexual health.

Cass believes gender and sexual variance are natural and beautiful examples of the way all human beings are unique, multifaceted, and variant. It’s an honor for him to provide a queer-affirming space to help his clients learn to see this, too, and to help them understand the beauty in who they are.
